Man waits 5 years to get car repaired, demands $2,600 plus additional $1,200 from coworker who hit his car: 'I finally got HR involved'

When you and a coworker get in a car accident, things might not go smoothly without HR intervening. 

This person is flummoxed by their coworker dragging his feet, and we're not talking about responding to emails slowly! This person shared their mildly infuriating story spanning 5 full years. As they write, 5 years ago, they got into a fender bender with this guy they work with. During a snowy day, they slid on a slippery patch of the parking lot and dinged the passenger side bumper cover. Not the worst accident in the world — probably just more of an eyesore than an actual hazard to drive. 

Maybe that's why this guy waited 5 full years to get the damages fixed! He and the coworker agreed to a $2,600 payment in lieu of going through insurance. The coworker scribbled this guy a note, the money was sent, and that was that… for 5 years, anyway. Since things didn't go through insurance, I bet that the coworker got this huge cash influx and didn't put it into the car at all. He probably thought that the cosmetic issue could be fixed later on, while he had a fun time with the money in the moment.

Now, he's finally decided he wants to get it fixed, because he's selling the car. But he must've felt ridiculous begging for extra money from his coworker after all that time! That $2,600 is long gone, and this guy is facing the consequences of his actions!     In 2020 we had a usual snowstorm with a little ice for our area and the owner being a tight ass instead of hiring a real plow company to clear the lot hired a local guy with a tractor and a blade, the business is locked in a rural area.

    Then the ice started and made these rounds of snow rock solid, I tried to break it up and shovel it away but it did not help.

    I got in my truck dropped it into 4wd, came over the snow mound, slid across the lot, and hit my coworkers car just enough on the bumper that my hitch put a nice square hole right in the passenger side of the bumper cover.

    I go in tell him about it and we go out and look at it. I tell him if he wants to get some estimates that I would pay to get it repaired.

    The issue is that its 2020 middle of winter so a lot of damaged vehicles and because of c19 a lot of the shops had very limited people and he could not get it in for repair at the time.

    Of course the original money I gave him I am sure is gone but now he come at me with a new estimate of $3,800 telling me I need to pay the difference because it was my fault the bumper is damaged and it has significantly lowered the value of the vehicle its a 2016 rav4 with over 200k miles on it.

    We are no longer on the same shift but he keeps coming in on my shift telling me I need to pay him and leaving notes at my workstation.

    Its not my fault he has waited 5 years to fix it, and I think its nuts to pay that kind of money on a vehicle that is not worth the cost of the repair to the bumper.
